I liken the experience of moving away from home to the creation of a lava tree mold. When lava flows come across a tree, it can potentially cause the tree to burn out but leave behind a hole or a cavity.

When lava comes to destroy what is in its path, it is both a symbol of destruction and creation. And while it feels like it destroys us to have to leave home, there is still a part of us that is connected and remains despite this departure.

cast away connects with homegrown and upheaval to speak about how you can be so connected to home but when circumstances force you to have to leave, there is still some reassurance that there are things like family, culture, and history that will remain. And you carry those aspects with you but its also waiting for you when you go back.
